Substandard road conditions photographs, 1945.

A loose-leaf binder of photographs of bad road and bridge conditions in Wisconsin compiled by Commission staff for use in discussion of the highway fund segregation law of 1945. Images show poorly surfaced roads, surface breaks, trucks broken through highways, narrow or weak bridges, flood conditions, and snow hazards. They are identified by location.

The Highway Commission was created by Chapter 337, Laws of 1911. State Laws of 1929 reorganized the commission from a five person, part-time agency to a three-person, full-time agency. With the reorganization of state government agencies in 1967 (Chapter 75), the Highway Commission was placed under the newly created Department of Transportation (see WIHV85-A1884).
