Photographs made by John K. Hillers related to expeditionary surveys of western North America led by John Wesley Powell. Hillers made photographs of the western landscape for the topographical and geological surveys. Later, he worked for the U.S. Bureau of Ethnology and made photographs of various Native American groups, including the Ute.
