Historic American Engineering Record collection on the Central of Georgia Railroad, Savannah Shop and Terminal facilities, 1975-1976.

This collection consists of the historical data, forms, research, photographs, and drawings included in the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) survey of the Central of Georgia Railroad's Savannah Shop and Terminal facilities. The collection contains three series: Central of Georgia Shops Complex, which includes 146 pages of historical data, and the Historic Landmark nomination forms; Central of Georgia passenger station and train shed, administration buildings, viaducts, gates, etc.; and photographs. One set of contact prints, as well as photocopies of each print, are included in the collection. The photographs were taken by HAER photographer jack Boucher, and the courtesy of a credit line is requested for any duplication.

The Central Rail Road and Canal Company was organized in 1833 by a group of Savannah businessmen. In 1835, its name changed to Central Rail Road and Banking Company of Georgia. The company was sold and reorganized as the Central of Georgia Railway in 1895. IN 1971, the name changed to Central of Georgia Railroad.
