Papers, 1840-1870.

This collection of letters and manuscripts concerns natural history, ichthyology, origins of myths and superstitions, public health, and the legal rights of the fishing industry in Cornwall. Most of the correspondence concerns Couch's translation of Pliny's "Natural History," published by the Wernerian Club of London (1847-1850). The manuscript section consists of articles, drafts of essays, and reading notes, mostly background research for the Pliny work. Principal correspondents include Matthias Dunn, Sir John Herschel, Charles Moxon, George Munford, and Henry Watkins.
