Passavant/Roth Correspondence and Other Material 1858-1894

This series comprises letters written by William A. Passavant, Sr., to Henry Warren Roth from 1858-1894. The letters were generated over a long personal and professional relationship that began in Roth's college days and extended until Passavant's death. The records are handwritten in English. In box 1, folders 1-4 include photocopies of correspondence from Passavant to Roth from 1858-1877. The originals of these letters are in the archives of Thiel College, Greenville, Pennsylvania. Folders 5-15 contain original correspondence from Passavant to Roth from 1888-1894, as well as undated letters and a few assorted items relating to Roth or to the Emergency Hospital, later Passavant Memorial Hospital, Chicago. In box 2, folders 1-4 include use copies of the 1888-1894 letters and the undated letters and assorted items. Folder 5 in box 2 has photocopies of the envelopes for the letters 1858-1894 and undated envelopes. It is not known where the original envelopes are located. These materials, as well as the photocopies in box 1, were copied by Dr. Robert H. Fischer, professor emeritus, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Folder 6 includes a register of all the letters and transcripts of some for which the handwriting is hard to read, prepared by Dr. Fischer for use with the correspondence. Records are in good condition.
