Muster rolls for the 1st and 2nd regiments of the Pennsylvania Volunteers and claims for State pay. The muster rolls generally show the name, age and rank of the soldier; the date and place where he was mustered in; the name of the person who mustered him in; and the unit, regiment, company and the commanding officer to which he was assigned. Particulars regarding the death (cause, place and date) or desertion (date and place) of a recruit are frequently noted as well. Information appearing in the claims for state pay differs with each document. While some claims simply list the veteran's name, unit of service and reason for claim, others also give the soldier's residence, date of enlistment, term of service, wounds suffered, date of discharge and pension received.
