Nathan Trotter was a metal importer. Born in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1787, he was the son of Daniel Trotter and Rebecca Conarroe. He finished school at the age of 16 and went to work for his brother William, a merchant. Another brother, Joseph, was also involved in the business as an assistant.
