Correspondence, bills, tax receipts, promissory notes, deeds, wills, photos, and other papers, relating to family and business affairs, religion, church and missionary organizations, involvement in westward migration and land dealings, particularly in Iowa, and everyday life of women in the 19th century, of the Sanford family of Massachusetts and members of the Partridge, Thayer, and Slocomb families. Includes correspondence, sermons, essays, and diary (1847) of a trip to England, of Rev. David Harlan Sanford, of Medway, Mass., relating to church and missionary affairs; correspondence of his sister, Joanna (Sanford) Partridge, and Charlotte Adams Slocomb, with various female friends and relatives. (Con't) Also, correspondence (1850s) of Lydia Sanford (Partridge) Thayer, daughter of Joanna (Sanford) Partridge and Joel Partridge, written while her husband, Addison Parsons Thayer was in Iowa, relating to her involvement in their business, Thayer and Company, Medway, Mass., attendance at the Mechanics Fair, Boston, Mass., 1856, and other topics, and essays (1840s) she wrote while a student at Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary; letters (1882) describing life at the school; bylaws, minutes, articles of agreement, and financial records (1870-84) of West Medway Mallet Company, Medway, Mass.; and papers relating to Denny, Rice, and Company, Boston, Medway Cotton Manufactory, and Stafford Western Emigration Company; and school workbooks. Rev. David Harlan Sanford's correspondents include Samuel Porter, missionary at Bradford, McKean County, Pa., and T.D. Southworth, missionary at Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha County, Wis.
