Correspondence, diaries, account books, deeds, militia papers, papers relating to schools and education, and miscellaneous business and legal documents, of members of the Spaulding and Fearing families, chiefly of Hingham and Tewksbury, Mass.; and genealogical notes. Includes letters (1776) describing the march of a Revolutionary militia regiment from Boston to Connecticut; scrapbook of Civil War newspaper clippings relating in part to the 6th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Militia; 2 letters (1881) from Sarah Caroline (Wilder) Spaulding to her husband, John Fearing Spaulding, describing her teaching activities at Hampton Institute (Va.); Ernest R. Spaulding's journal (1929) of an automobile trip from Boston to San Diego, Calif., and back and his "One Man's Family," a typescript history of the Spaulding family of Tewksbury, written in 1937. Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor.
