George H. Himes papers [manuscript], 1852-1952.

Papers of George Henry Himes, first curator of the Oregon Historical Society and a printer by trade. The collection consists primarily of detailed diaries kept throughout Himes's life, plus records of his printing business and other papers. Also included are minutes of the Portland Historical Society; minutes of the Native Sons of Oregon; information on the Himes family and Olympia, Washington; records of Himes's printing firms Carter & Himes and "Himes the Printer"; and a draft of Himes's autobiography. Extensive and detailed diaries include information on daily activities, Oregon pioneers, the growth of the Oregon Historical Society, local events, and Himes's travels.
