Typescript copies in a bound vol. of the official correspondence of Charles Henry Dalton with the Executive Dept. of Massachusetts. Dalton was appointed Agent, and later Assistant Quartermaster-General, for Massachusetts by Governor John Andrew in 1861. Most of the correspondence is from 1861, when Dalton was in Washington, D.C., and concerns the raising and transport of troops from Massachusetts and problems with equipment and supplies. One letter describes the First Battle of Bull Run. Correspondents include Andrew; his Military Secretary, Albert Gallatin Browne Jr.; other members of the Governor's staff; and various military officers.
