Business and personal papers of Boston shipping merchant James Dalton, his son Peter Roe Dalton, Peter Roe Dalton Jr., and Dr. John Call Dalton Sr. Included are instructions to ship captains, memoranda regarding sales of ships and cargos in the West Indies and other places, indentures of apprenticeship (1760s), bills of sale for James Dalton's slaves, petitions and other papers concerning the rebuilding of Leverett St., Boston, after the fire of 1760, Peter Dalton's accounts as a commissary agent during the Revolutionary War, and scattered correspondence. Also, deeds of the Spaulding family to lands in Chelmsford, Mass., military commissions and other papers of Simeon Spaulding, correspondence of Dr. John C. Dalton with Dr. Reuben Dimond Mussey, and a historical report on the U.S. Army's Civil War-era Depot Field Hospital by Dr. Edward Barry Dalton.
