The vocal scores include one edition in German by Peters (Leipzig, 1873, pl. no. 5552), bearing the title "Der Wasserträger," and one edition in German, French, and English by Boosey (London; New York, 1876) edited by J. Pittman and bearing the title "The water carrier." The English adaptation is by A. Baildon. The promptbook and dialogue parts are manuscript, in German.

Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842) was an Italian composer and music instructor. He was a child music prodigy who went on to write many popular operas as an adult. He moved to France in 1785, where he continued to live and work, successfully surviving the tumultuous regime changes of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods.
