Arranged in three groups: I. Vocal scores (7). II. Librettos (1). III. Promptbooks (2). The vocal scores include two copies in French, published by Brandus (Paris, 186-?, pl. no. B. et Cie. 9406); three copies in Italian by Brandus & Dufour (Paris, 185-?, pl. nos. B. et Cie. 9406, B. et Cie. 9650) bearing the title "La stella del nord"; and two copies in English and Italian, published by Novello, Ewer (London, 187-?) which bear the handwritten cover title "Star of the north." The libretto is published, in English. The promptbooks are in English manuscript. One is incomplete.

By 1831, Spontini's reputation has lost ground to the works of younger men, including Meyerbeer, whose Robert le Diable was first performed eight month after the date of this letter; this is perhaps the opera mentioned here, though Meyerbeer may be referring to the abortive Le Portefaix, the contract for which he had just signed. Despite the apparent warmth of their relationship, Spontini was already jealous. His own continuing lack of success he attributed to a plot orchestrated by Meyerbeer, "...
