Chiefly correspondence of the Hodgdon family of Rochester, N.H., including letters of Elizabeth K. (Hodgdon) Colman, teacher, of Somersworth, N.H., and her husband, Nathan Jenkins Colman, mariner; together with letters (1850-51) from Trueman Sanborn to his brother Cyrus, describing living conditions and costs in Sacramento, Calif., during the Gold Rush. Nathan Colman's letters include descriptions of his activities during voyages to Cuba and European ports while serving as mate aboard the bark Effort, 1840-42.
