Madame l'archiduc [collection] : opéra-bouffe en 3 actes / de Albert Millaud ; musique de J. Offenbach. 1870-1882.

Arranged in four groups: I. Vocal scores (4). II. Vocal parts (1). III. Promptbooks (15). IV. Dialogue parts (118). The vocal scores are in two editions. One is in French, by Choudens, Paris (187-?, pl. no. A.C. 3017) and one in English, by Cramer, London (1882, pl. no. J.B.C. & Co. 8151). The vocal part is manuscript, in English. The promptbooks include eight typescript books in English, three of which are marked "up to date version"; three manuscript books in English, one of which is marked "Henry Allen version"; and four printed books in English. One is incomplete, published by Cramer, London (1876), with the English by H. B. Farnie; one was published by the Metropolitan Print Co., N. Y. (1875) and is "arranged and adapted expressly for the Soldene English Opera Bouffe Company" and lists the cast of the first U. S. performance of the work. One book consists of the printed libretto cut and pasted into a lined ledger and contains a list of cast members. The dialogue parts are in English and make up six sets. Four sets of 21 parts are typescript, one set of 21 is manuscript, and one set of 13 parts is mimeoed manuscript and bears the indication "property of Mrs. Jas. A. Oates."

Jacques Offenbach (1819–1880) was a German-born French composer and cellist of Jewish ancestry. He had a strong influence in popular music in Europe, and was one of the originators of the operetta, of which he wrote more than one hundred. His works were noted for their elements of satire and parody; two for which he is particularly known are the operetta Orpheus in the Underworld and the opera The Tales of Hoffman .
