Arranged in two groups: I. Vocal scores (2). II. Promptbooks (1). The vocal scores are in French and English. The French edition is by Brandus, Paris (1855, pl. no. B. et Cie 12,542) and contains superlinear handwritten English text. The English edition is by S. French, New York (188-?) and is an adaptation by H.B. Farnie entitled "The blind beggars." The promptbook is manuscript, in English, written in a lined ledger. The title page carries the indication "English version by E.F.W."

Jacques Offenbach (1819–1880) was a German-born French composer and cellist of Jewish ancestry. He had a strong influence in popular music in Europe, and was one of the originators of the operetta, of which he wrote more than one hundred. His works were noted for their elements of satire and parody; two for which he is particularly known are the operetta Orpheus in the Underworld and the opera The Tales of Hoffman .
