Accounts, receipts, deeds, and inventories dating 1709-1830, and other papers. The papers of Capt. Jonathan Tucker (d.1790) of the Massachusetts Militia include the records (1745-88) of Country Gore (Worcester Co.) and of Charlton, Mass., with town warrants (1760-77) for the establishment of services, assessments, and tax rolls, and documents relating to the duties of the offices of collector, assessor, and constable held by Tucker from 1761-88. Military documents (1754-61) of Capt. Tucker include papers relating to his company's activities and a journal kept during the Crown Point Campaign; there are also accounts kept while he acted as delegate (1774-75) to the Massachusetts Provincial Congress. (Con't) The papers of Lt. Jonathan Tucker (d.1820) relate to his service with the 5th Worcester County Regiment Massachusetts Militia (1779), to enemy activity at Potterskill, N.Y., to his occupation as representative (1781-96) for the proprietors of Calais, Vt., and to his participation in Shays's Rebellion. The letters (1819-22) of William Tucker, printer, written while traveling through Alabama and New Orleans, describe land opportunities in the Texas territory and the difficulties of establishing a newspaper. Names represented include Jonathan Tucker (d.1749), housewright of Roxbury, Mass.

As of Aug. 1, l774, Gov. Thomas Gage had replaced the Council chosen from among the members of the General Court with one appointed by royal writ of mandamus. On Sept. 1 he called for the election of representatives to a General Court to meet in Salem on Oct. 5, but on Sept. 28 discharged them. Nevertheless ninety elected representatives met as scheduled, protested Gage's action, and on Oct. 7 resolved themselves into a Provincial Congress. They then adjourned until Oct. 11 in Conco...
