The discourse, in the form of a sermon, gives the history of the First Church in Harvard, Mass., and exhorts the parishioners to show their gratitude for their rich heritage by good deeds. Collection includes a letter from Chandler to Dr. Samuel A. Green (1884); a printed version of the discourse with an appendix by Green is bound into the volume.
