Asian travel photo album [graphic]. 1875-1877.

Carte de visite-sized views and portraits from Aden; Nagasaki, Kyoto and Hakodate, Japan; and Singapore. In addition to images of ports and group portraits of Japanese women, there are several early photographs of the Ainu that offer an impression of their mode of dress and style of living. The series of photographs taken in Singapore document a variety of cultural influences: native theatre and native huts, as well as a Hindu temple and a European style church under construction (in the background of one image). Also includes a portrait of the King of Siam (Chulalongkorn or Rama V).

1 album (38 albumen prints) ; 13 x 18 cm.
