Harry Snyder was born on January 26, 1867 in Cherry Valley, New York. He earned a B.S. from Cornell University in 1889. After graduation, Snyder worked as an instructor and assistant chemist at Cornell (1889-1891). Snyder came to the University of Minnesota in 1891 as a chemist for the Agricultural Experiment Station.
