Consists of correspondence and manuscripts related to the anthology DEMOCRACY AT THE CROSSROADS, arranged by Ellis Meredith. The manuscripts include typewritten biographies of the above contributors; a 30 page typescript of Brand Whitlock's essay "Gentlemen Cry Peace, Peace" with holograph corrections by the author; and Newton D. Baker's 33 page essay "Democracy at War" also with holograph corrections by the author. Both essays were published in Meredith's anthology DEMOCRACY AT THE CROSSROADS, Also included is the dust jacket for the book, and an envelope from the Women's Division of the Democratic National Committee to Meredith, postmarked Sept. 15, 1948.

Newton Diehl Baker Jr. (December 3, 1871 – December 25, 1937) was an American lawyer, Georgist, politician, and government official. He served as the 37th mayor of Cleveland, Ohio from 1912 to 1915.
