This collection consists primarily of letters and pamphlets collected by Margaret Freeman LaFar, 1905-1987, while she was conducting research on Lowell Mason. Correspondents include members of the Hymn Society of America like Reginald L. McAll and Edith Holden, Lowell Mason's grandson Henry Lowell Mason, and Savannah, Georgia residents Lowry Axley and Charles J. Woodbridge. In addition to the correspondence this collection contains pamphlets produced for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Lowell Mason and an index to the Savannah, Georgia newspapers, 1817-1824, where Lowell Mason is mentioned.

Margaret Freeman LaFar, 1905-1987, was born in Savannah, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Branch LaFar. She was a long time teacher and school principal in the public schools of Savannah until her retirement. She was also interested in Savannah history and was an active member of the Savannah Historical Research Association.
