Hood (5 Aug. 1864), to recently appointed commander of Confederate forces facing Gen. William T. Sherman's troops around Atlanta, Ga., containing a series of orders on how to proceed with defending the Confederate Army; and an autograph sentiment (Apr. 1883; 1 p.) from the pen of Jefferson Davis, Beauvoir, Miss., stating, "Blessed be the hand that prepares a pleasure for a child, for there is no saying when and where it may bloom forth."
