Antelope photograph and articles, 1948 and undated.

Materials concerning a steam locomotive with single drivers, named "The Antelope" in anticipation of its speed, owned and used by the Boston and Maine Railroad to run a one car train in 1848 from Boston to Lawrence, Mass., a distance of 26 miles in 26 minutes. Subsequently several articles were written in 1932, 1935, 1948, and later concerning the trip but no contemporary (1840s) news reporting has been identified. Collection includes a 20th century black and white photograph, probably created for the article which appeared in the Lawrence Evening Tribune in 1948 as well as clippings and articles concerning the alleged event.
