Correspondence, 1880-1899.

Correspondence of John M. and Mary (Minnie) Emmet Griswold Forbes, some original mss. and some only in typed transcript form. Includes courtship letters written before their marriage. J.M. Forbes travelled to Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Australia on business for the China trade firm Russell & Co. (1881-84), and conducted other business in New York (1884, 1897, 1899). His letters give some descriptions of his business activities and the places he visited. Minnie's letters are mostly written from New York and describe home, family, and social activities, including a series in 1884 detailing life with a new baby.
