"Seeking Western Waters" photographs collection [graphic], circa 1905-1979; bulk circa 1950-1979

The bulk of this collection consists of photographs made by Emory and Ruth Strong (ca. 1950 through 1979) to illustrate their manuscript, which they originally titled, "Lewis and Clark on Western Waters." They also collected some historic and contemporary photographs from other photographers and institutions, but only a few of these are included in the collection. The photographs are keyed to passages from the journals of Lewis, Clark, and other diarists of the expedition, dated between August 1805 and May 1806.

308 photographic prints in 14 folders.
