John B. Hutson (1890-1964), a native of Murray, Ky., worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as an authority on agricultural marketing with a specialty in tobacco. He was a marketing specialist for the Foreign Agricultural Service, chief of the Tobacco Branch of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, and president of the Commodity Credit Corporation. In 1945, four individuals who had worked on the Manhattan project-John L. Balderston, Jr., Dieter M. Gruen, W.J. McLean, and David B. Wehmeyer-formed a committee and wrote a letter to 154 public figures asking for their opinions about the possibility of the creation of a world government.
