William C. C. Claiborne practiced law in Tennessee and became judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee in 1796. He became governor of the Territory of Mississippi in 1801 and was appointed to receive Louisiana from France in 1803. He served as governor of the Territory of Orleans, 1803-1812, and as governor of the State of Louisiana, 1812-1816. From the description of William C.C.
