Virginia Bradford Greer was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 30, 1919. Her family later moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where Greer was raised and married. She and her husband moved to Mobile, Alabama, in the summer of 1937 and in 1952 she took a correspondence course from the Newspaper Institute of America and began short stories and poems to magazines.
