Correspondence (1814-52) of the family of Caleb Sherman relates to the family's successful peddling of tinware, clocks, and shoes in Kentucky, the Mississippi Territory, New York State, and west to Wisconsin, and describes areas and business opportunities. Letters (1851-55) by Dr. Stephen J.W. Tabor, medical author and 4th auditor of the U.S. Treasury, describe visits to principal library collections in Boston and New York. Includes a letter by Lewis Masquerier referring to his discoveries in the science of phonetics.
