ALS, 1761 April 13 : "Boyd's Hole," to Mrs. Penelope Barnes.

Alexander writes to Barnes concerning the upcoming marriage of his son and her daughter. The Father spells out what amount of land, slaves, animals, furniture and grain he will give his son upon the marriage. It is probable that John Alexander was a descendant of the founder of Alexandria, Captain John Alexander who surveyed in 1669 and later purchased the 6000-acre grant made by Governor Berkeley to Robert Howsing.
