ArchivalResource

Boston property papers, 1766-1874.

Papers relating to Boston properties used by Nathaniel I. Bowditch in preparing a series of articles signed "Gleaner" on genealogy, land titles, etc., for the Boston Transcript. Papers consist of deeds, mortgages, plats, notes, and correspondence. A few items dated from 1866-1874 probably belonged to Nathaniel's brother William I. Bowditch. The collection includes a large ms. map (located elsewhere) of the west side of Beacon Hill in Boston (1828), which Bowditch used as an index to his books of titles of real estate.
