The first House of Representatives in the Kansas Legislature consisted of 75 members who were chosen for one year, and the first Senate consisted of 25 members who were chosen for two years. An amendment to the state constitution in 1873 raised the number of Representatives to 125 and the number of Senators to 40. Clarence C. Love was born in Weir City, Kansas on Feb. 24, 1922, and attended the Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg. He has owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Independence, Missouri, but has made his home in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1953, the State of Kansas passed the Kansas Act Against Discrimination (KAAD), the twelfth state to pass such an act. This act created the Anti-Discrimination Commission which focused solely on employment practices and had no enforcement capabilities.
