John Boit logbooks, 1790-1830.

Four bound volumes of logs and journals kept by John Boit as captain, officer, or passenger on several voyages. The first is the log of the snow George on a voyage from Boston to Isle of France 1796-7, and of the Canton from Isle of France to Charleston, North Carolina, 1797. The second (a bound photocopy) is a log of a voyage around the world on the sloop Union, 1794-6. The third is a journal of the Mount Hope from Newport, Rhode Island, to the East Indies, 1805-6. The fourth contains separate journal accounts of the voyages in the first two volumes; plus a journal of the Columbia on a voyage around the world, 1790-3; of the Mount Hope on a voyage to the East Indies and back, 1801-2; and of the sloop Hiram from Charleston to Newport, 1797. Also in this volume are remarks on the coast of America; extracts from Francis Malbone's journal of the Commerce on a voyage to Hamburg, 1798; observations of the Bermudas, 1792; and sketches from a journal of a trip from Havana to the Isle of St. Thomas. A fifth volume is a letterbook of John Hubbard, 1829-30, containing letters concerning Hubbard's plantation in Essequibo, Guyana.
