The four scrapbooks contain clippings regarding Jenkins' activities during his 18 years as president and chancellor. Many clippings deal with construction on campus, including construction of the new football stadium, Umstead Hall, and Scott Dormitory. Included is documentation of the first class of the nursing school and Jenkins' push for a medical school at East Carolina University. Some clippings refer to unrest and student protests on campus and throughout the country. Clippings have been removed from the books and stored in boxes. Photographs have been removed and can be found in the photograph collection.

Leo Warren Jenkins was born on May 28, 1913, in Succasunna, New Jersey. He earned a B.S. in education from Rutgers University in 1935, a master’s degree from Columbia University in 1938, and a doctorate degree from New York University in 1941. He joined in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, serving at Guadalcanal, Guam, and Iwo Jima.
