Rorem discusses his earliest impressions of Eugene Ormandy as a conductor, how it happened that Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra performed his music, the nature of his relationship with Ormandy, interpretations of his music by other conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, William Steinberg, Leopold Stokowski, and Jerry Hadley, the rehearsal process with Ormandy, the extramusical meanings of compositions, alterations that Ormandy made to the score of Rorem's Sunday Morning, and explications of his compositions, Sunday Morning and Eagles.
