In 1967, Carl Zigrosser began to prepare a catalog raisonné of the prints of Edward Hopper. This project culminated in the Philadelphia Museum of Art's purchase of Hopper's own master set of his prints in 1962, and an exhibition of those prints in honor of the artist's 80th birthday. Included in the file are drafts of Carl Zigrosser's essay for the catalog that accompanied the exhibition, lists of the prints with dates, titles and states, press releases and legal documents. Letters from Hoppers contain some philosophical statements about art and printing; information about specific prints, techniques and materials used; and titles for unidentified prints. The two correspondents are warm with one another, exc hange invitations to visit, and touch on Jo Hopper's protective behavior towards her elderly husband.
