Charlot's work was represented at Weyhe Gallery. Carlot and Zigrosser also shared an interest in Central American art. Matters concerning Charlot's art work and his writings on Posada, Orozco and the "Mexican Renaissance" of 1920-1925 dominate the letters. Jean Charlot was an artist, teacher, scholar, critic, poet, and playwright. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, and served in the French Army from 1918 to 1920. After the war he moved to Mexico, where he had relatives, and joined a group of other young artists in the Mexican Mural Renaissance of the 1920s. Born in poverty in 1852, Jose Guadalupe Posada (b. February 31, 1853-d. January 20, 1913) became the "Printmaker to the Mexican People," an influence on future Mexican artists such as Orozco and Rivera, and is often compared to such icons as Goya and Daumier.
