Correspondence with Carl Zigrosser, 1922-1928, n.d.

In the 1920's, Charles Burchfield was introduced to J. J. Lankes and to printmaking by Carl Zigrosser. The two artists worked in collaboration making prints. Isolated as an artist working in Buffalo, N.Y., Burchfield's letters are warm and eager. He writes about his career and works in progress. There is a passing reference to a sketching trip to Ohio in 1923 with Lankes. A similar trip in 1924 is described at length in Lankes' correspondence with Zigrosser. In 1925, Burchfield made his arrangement with Montross Gallery exclusive and his paintings were transferred from the Weyhe Gallery.
