The Association of Southern Women for the Prevention of Lynching was organized in Atlanta, Georgia in 1930 under the auspices of the Commission on Interracial Cooperation. Directed by Jessie Daniel Ames, the group collected thousands of signatures on anti-lynching petitions, worked to change public opinion and educate children away from racism, and assisted southern officials to uphold the law.
