James Moreland was born in 1897 in Illinois and resided most of his early life in Georgetown, Kentucky. He died in Oswego, N.Y. in 1951. He was a member of the faculty of the University of Maine from 1930 to 1936 and received his Master's degree there in 1934. He received his B.A. degree from Georgetown College in 1924.
