Historical note: Georgetown College, the first Baptist college west of the Allegheny Mountains, was chartered and incorporated in 1829 by members of the Kentucky Baptist Education Association. James Moreland was born in 1897 in Illinois and resided most of his early life in Georgetown, Kentucky. He died in Oswego, N.Y. in 1951. He was a member of the faculty of the University of Maine from 1930 to 1936 and received his Master's degree there in 1934. He received his B.A. degree from Georgetown College in 1924.
