Franklin Pierce Adams was a journalist and writer. Born in Chicago, he decided to become a writer and moved to New York, where he wrote for various newspapers. His signature column was The Conning Tower, an enormously popular compilation of satire, light verse, literary criticism, politics, and social commentary, all made accessible by Adams' unpretentious wit.
