Letter of 22 March 1979 to Lyman W. Riley of the University of Pennsylvania Library asking that Mrs. Diane Johnson be given access to any Hammett material in the library's possession. Hellman had designated Johnson as Hammett's official biographer; her research culminated in her book Dashiell Hammett, a Life (New York: Random House, 1983).
