Letters regarding Shakespeare Mulberry Block, 1866-1884, n.d.

This file consists of letters relating to the history and authenticity of a block of mulberry wood that supposedly came from a tree planted by Shakespeare. This block is now in the Horace Howard Furness Memorial Library. The file was originally assembled by Horace Howar Furness, though it also contains a few related items that were added much later.

Engraver, portrait and miniature painter John Sartain was born in London in 1808 and moved to the United States in 1830 after a seven year apprenticeship to London engraver John Swaine.
