The file contains materials related to the rehearsal and performance of the play, including a published copy, which has been annotated as a prompt-book (the book is in a plain cover, with no date or publisher given); a handwritten scenario, with a list of props pasted to the back; and 10 handwritten role books, for the following parts: Präsident von Berg; Klotilde; Kammerath von Schwadorf; Felix, sein Sohn; Oberst von Grünau; Ewald Eschenberg, Landwirth; Margarethe Osten; Lotte, deren Magd; Dietrich, Schreiber; and Ordennanz. Noted on the role books are the names of actors and actresses assigned the roles, reflecting three or four casts over time. Some names correspond to cast members known to have performed in other German-language plays in Philadelphia from the mid to late 1870s, and others dating from the early 1880s up to around 1886. See a playbill in folder 682 that advertises a coming performance of the play in March 1886, although without a cast listing.
