Turandot, Prinzessin von China : Ein tragikomisches Märchen, 1855, ca. 1886-1890.

The German play is an adaptation of the Italian play of the same title by Gozzi. The item is a published copy (Stuttgart: J. G. Cotta'scher Verlage, 1855) that has been annotated as a prompt-book. The book bears a label on the front cover of Theodor Bloch, who was active in German-language theater in Philadelphia from 1873 until at least the mid 1890s, first as an actor and later as a prompter, and who also ran a theater lending library. The title is listed in Bloch's catalog for his library, dated 1886 (see box 34). Bloch has initialed the book on the last page, and dated it "Philadelphia / Novb. 10, 1890." On that date the play was performed at Germania Theater, Philadelphia, as documented by an oversized playbill (see folder 724). Presumably Bloch served as prompter for the production.
