All but 1 of the remaining items were written while the Manns were living in the U.S. 1 letter from Mann dated shortly before the outbreak of World War II, conveys reflections on the German political situation and appeals to Werfel to participate with other exiled German-speaking intellectuals, in writing a series of brochures addressed to the German people. 1 item is a draft memorial piece by Mann about Franz Werfel (possibly a speech), inscribed to Alma Mahler.
