Cady Wells correspondence, 1942-1952.

Cady Wells (nationally known watercolor artist of Southwestern desert scenes) enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941. He became friends with Chester Somers while both were stationed at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts in 1942. They maintained a friendship and correspondence until Wells's death, and Somers retained those letters spanning a decade (1942-1952) which form the bulk of this collection.

Master Sergeant(MSG) Chester L. Somers was born on 6 August 1917 in Cambridge, MA. He enlisted in the US Naval Reserve from 1934-38 while in high school. During this time he went to sea and trained on the USS Fred Talbott and the USS Arkansas. On 26 July 1940, he enlisted in the 101st Engineer Combat Regiment of the Massachusetts National Guard.
