In a letter attempting to reestablish contact with Franz Werfel in California after an interlude of a number of years, Castelnuovo-Tedesco recalls the history of their acquaintance (in 1926 in Venice, at the premiere of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's opera "La Mandregola"; and in Florence in the late 1930s); relates his experience of exile; and expresses appreciation for Werfel's works.
